"Jump," Kris Kross

If you ever wore your clothes backwards in the early 90s, chances are you thought that was okay because of these guys:

Kris Kross – featuring the “Mac Daddy” Chris Kelly and the “Daddy Mac” Chris Smith –was the first major teenage hip-hop act.  Though they rapped like adults, they weren’t even old enough to drive, as evidenced by their later single, the unintentionally hilarious “I Missed The Bus.”

The song most people remember Kris Kross for, of course, is “Jump,” their first and only U.S. number one hit.  The video showed us all the different ways you could jump and wear your clothes backward.  It wasn’t groundbreaking – especially since the dance scenes were just people jumping up and down – but it was tremendously popular.  And, if you can get past all the dated gimmicks, you’ll still find a great song there.

Although many consider Kris Kross a one-hit wonder, the group would continue to enjoy moderate success after “Jump.”  They released three albums in total, selling 5.5 million copies in the U.S. alone.
